Nursery

Adeline is such a girl. She loves to dress up.

She wanted to do her hair like her mommy and insisted that she would put hot curlers in her hair with a flower on her head. Of course, I had to help her with the hot curlers but she was so happy to see them in her hair even thought I did such a lazy job. I never taught her but, she loves to wear jewelry and sometimes even picks her own clothes.

I don't know if anyone remembers my recent post about me rambling about my poor child rearing skills. Guess what! We got called to be nursery workers at church two Sundays ago. Who would thought, right? Perhaps, someone in heaven read my blog, realized that I needed major help in the area and put me to work without delay. Yesterday was our first Sunday and it was very challenging. We only had six kids but have a lot to learn. We were told to do a lesson for 10 minutes, but let me just say that it was a struggle... Are we supposed to have everyone sit through the lesson for 10 minutes? Or it is OK if someone runs around and distract the entire class? We came to a conclusion that it is impossible to have all the children quietly sit in their chairs for more than a minute or two. And, this is just one of many things. If anyone have any helpful suggestion for us, any comments are appreciated.

Ten minute lesson? ha ha ha ha. Yea right!!

Don't worry. Those weeks I stayed in nursery with Charlotte, the Glads always did a fabulous lesson in just a couple of minutes.

p.s. I am very excited to have you as Charlotte's new nursery leaders. But I'm also kind of sorry for you--not an easy calling, that's for sure!

Yay for Nursery! You guys will be AWESOME!

And I have never known a nursery class to sit for a 10 minute lesson....though I have seen teachers sneak it in during snack time ;)

Hey Rui! Bet you didn't know I was reading your blog! Hope you remember us from a couple years back in the ward. I love that you are in nursery... I just got released from that calling and I thought the best way to teach the lesson was during snack time. Seriously, all the kids are eating and being quiet so the lesson goes quite smoothly. :) Glad to see you guys are doing well. You'll have to give me your email address (send to rebecca.emett@gmail.com) so I can send you an invite to our blog.

Sweet calling! You'll do great. I'd say carpet squares or towels for the kids to sit on or teach the lesson during snack time while they are a little preoccupied but can still listen while eating :).

Sorry it's taken me so long to repsond to this. :) We're so excited you're in nursery. We ended up loving it, even though I was really nervous at first.

And our lessons were never ten minutes. We did a quick 1-2 minute lesson, and as long as we got them to sit still long enough to pray we were happy.

Good luck!

p.s. We got your Christmas card. So cute!

sorry read this post second. We usually have music time and I like that to run a little longer. so 15 to 20 mins depending on the day. Then play with toys for 40 mins. Then we set up a table and sit at it and do snack first and after a little buit fit the lesson in while they are still at the table. Then we color. Then after that we usually have about 15mins left so we sit on the floor and sing some more active songs or do this game where everyne starts at one end of the room and we all walk to the other end and back doing dinosaur walks, or ballerina walks, or whatever you think of. We also have puzzles we could do during this time period. Then last 5 mins we do bubbles. Bubbles are a giant life saver especially if you buy a bubble blowing machine. Totally worth it. You just hold it and walk around. If they get to roudy we stop and sit on floor sing tiny turtle song and then get back up and do bubbles. Something like this bubble machine...http://www.walmart.com/ip/Kidoozie-Bubble-Machine/16880231. You would need a tote for it to fit by itself in to keep it from spilling. Anyways. There are other nurserys in my ward I have visited that dont do bubbles. Its crazy they make a big difference. You will get the hang of it it just takes time. Also it it is 9am church it should be failrly easy, you could get away with lesson before snack. If it is 11 church, good luck, its their nap time so it is a whole new ball game. Plan on more snacks for this time slot it is lunch time. idk how 1pm church goes. You'll do great. That is what works for us take what you can from it
